Senior Living Community Leverages Energy Efficiency Incentives for Sustainable Upgrades

Asbury Methodist Village is an expansive and picturesque senior living community located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Spanning 134 acres, it offers an ideal environment for retirees. This esteemed non-profit organization has been serving seniors in Montgomery County for nearly a century, with a commendable history of providing exceptional support and care.

“We are very conscious of environmental stewardship and fiscal responsibility,” says Michele Potter, Executive Director. “So, when we need to do upgrades, it’s important for us to find high-efficiency replacements.”

THE UPGRADES

The retirement community installed three boilers and three water heaters, utilizing a $10,950 rebate from Washington Gas to mitigate the initial expenses. These upgrades resulted in an 18% overall energy savings.

To install the new equipment, the Asbury Methodist General Manager worked with Capitol Boiler Works, a registered Washington Gas Business Energy Solutions Service Provider, who also helped him complete the incentive application. The project went seamlessly, and the new high-efficiency natural gas equipment is expected to help reduce energy use and costs for years to come.

The Incentives

The non-profit organization, with its nearly century-old history, faces the challenge of maintaining its buildings and equipment. Recently, several natural gas boilers and water heaters required replacement in the residential buildings. However, through the high-efficiency equipment rebates available from the Washington Gas Business Energy Solutions program, Asbury Methodist discovered that upgrading to high-efficiency equipment could be achieved more affordably.

The Future

With this positive experience, Asbury Methodist is continuing their plans to improve their energy efficiency with additional natural gas equipment upgrade projects scheduled for 2023 and 2024. They plan to replace boilers and hot water heaters across their campus while leveraging Washington Gas Business Energy Solutions incentives.
