For years, Washington Gas has offered rebates that help customers upgrade to energy-efficient equipment. Through the Inflation Reduction Act, you can now save even more money with federal tax credits on energy efficiency upgrades.
Here are a few ways you can potentially combine offerings, saving money with rebates now and credits during tax season.
Water Heater Rebates and Tax Credits
Washington Gas offers money-saving rebates on ENERGY STAR® certified tankless and storage water heaters. These rebates can be as high as $450 for Maryland customers.
You may also be able to claim a federal tax credit for 30% of the project cost of your water heater upgrade (up to $600). Federal tax credits may require exceeding the efficiency ratings needed for the rebates above. You can check specific eligibility requirements at energystar.gov/taxcredits.
Hot water is the second-largest energy expense in today’s homes, averaging around 13% of your total energy use.1
With all these incentives, it’s a great time to upgrade and save.
Home Heating Rebates and Tax Credits
Washington Gas offers a variety of rebates to help customers upgrade their aging home heating systems.
Customers in Maryland can get up to $775 in rebates on select ENERGY STAR certified boilers, and up to $600 in rebates on select ENERGY STAR certified furnaces.
With as much as 50% of your home’s energy use going to heating and cooling2, upgrading to an energy-efficient home heating system can deliver real savings on your monthly bill.
The savings don’t stop there. The Inflation Reduction Act provides a 30% tax credit on the project cost of a furnace or boiler upgrade (up to $600). These credits may require exceeding the efficiency ratings needed for the rebates above. Find specific eligibility requirements at energystar.gov/taxcredits.
When combined, these incentives can lower the upfront costs of your upgrade—and deliver additional bill savings for years to come through reduced energy use.
Annual Limits on Federal Tax Credits
You may be able to claim up to $3,200 in energy efficiency improvement tax credits. For specific questions about tax credit limits, visit the ENERGY STAR website.
